I thought that Ranchos are still relatively common, like a French Cherokee kind of thing but it seems that they're rarer than I expected.

Cherokees are pillars of quality compared to these, from what I understand. They also have actual off-road chops, which this doesn’t. I aim to change that for one lucky Rancho someday.

Well the Rancho off roads about as well as a 240, I was more referring to the ‘rugged’ lifestyle of Cherokee owners. Also these were basically folded into shape by grouchy French people, so how much build quality are you honestly expecting? Anyways, you can have your Rancho, I’ll have a Bagheera myself.

Funny, I just got myself one of those (the 2nd gen “S” model) in 1/43 as well! Watch Live And Let Diecast for that. I’d love one of those too, 3 seats so I can take my kids out for ice cream!

How much would we have to supplement his lulz budget, and does he have duurtlang staging space? 800 miles away is too far even for our mad friend Simon (BiTurbo), I suspect, even though anyone with a Lada Niva and a Cit BX would obviously be on board with this all the way if he could be.

Do it!! I’m sure some of us EurOppos would want to pick it up for you, I certainly would but my Twingo can’t tow. Maybe picking it up could even become part of an Oppo Roadtrip for some of the EurOppos! I think duurtlang already has experience with shipping cars to America, so it probably can’t hurt to contact him if it gets serious.

We(the Dutch/European Oppos) could always throw a Peugeot diesel in the back, so you can keep it more french, though the idea of the Maudi Quancho started growing on me. Lucky for you I don’t have space nor time for such a project :)

Unlucky for me, you mean? Now I can’t just watch you do it from a safe distance, my time and bank account safe! I like keeping engine swaps in the family, but Pug parts don’t exactly grow on trees here and I already have a complete Audi 4000(80) and spare drivetrain, and a core VW TDI engine. So it makes perfect sense, you see (eye roll).

When Chrysler sold its interest (which basically used to be Simca) to PSA, these and other things became Talbot-Matras and other combinations of the three. Such a weird circle that became.

Yeah, that makes perfect sense! Though my mind might be a bit compromised, since building a car from scratch within a year made perfect sense to me a few years ago.

I don’t know where they’ll find that help in America, but definitely. I’d love to have a Rancho, though. And that 404. Certainly Hobgoblin height. And very styling. I wish it was as cheap as the Matra-Simca-Talbot.
